3-month Course on Agroecology for Food Systems Transformation

Introduction:

A thirteen-week hybrid Course delivered in English, that combines experiential and field-based learning to provide a comprehensive understanding of agroecological principles and their practical applications. Through interactive sessions, expert-led workshops, and hands-on experience, participants gain knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, biodiversity, food systems, community engagement, markets, policies, certification, socio-politico-cultural aspects and related topics. By the end of the Course, you will be prepared to help transform your local food system towards greater sustainability and resilience.

The course is open to graduates from any background and is free of cost; participants are only responsible for their own fieldwork – travel, food and stay expenses.

Duration: The course runs for 13 weeks, 9 weeks of online sessions with casework, and 4 weeks of fieldwork with partner enterprises and CSOs.

Modules:

  • Foundations: Systems thinking, basics of ecology and agriculture, food history and politics, sustainability, nutrition, gender, agroecological principles, indigenous food systems, and social movements.
  • Ecological Practices: Natural farming, permaculture, seed systems, non-pesticidal management, integrating animals and insects, soil-water-energy linkages, watershed and landscape ecology, pollination, and pest management.
  • Food Systems & Policy: Food system transformation, nutrition-agriculture linkages, market systems, global trade, climate change, certification, and sustainability indicators.
  • Field-Based Learning: Participatory rural appraisal tools, market surveys, practical farm work, livestock management, watershed and soil conservation, biodiversity observation, and local food knowledge.
  • Transformation & Application: Identifying local challenges, co-creating transformation plans, testing solutions, and using field data.
  • Communication: Visioning future pathways, storytelling, visual communication, social media outreach, and sharing learnings.

Dates: 5th January, 2026 to 3rd April, 2026

Course Schedule

  • 05 January, 2026: Course starts with first Online Segment (5 weeks)
  • 09 February, 2026: Fieldwork with Partners (4 weeks)
  • 09 March, 2026: Second Online Segment of Course resumes (4 weeks)
  • 03 April, 2026: Course concludes (Total: 13 weeks)

  • Deposit Requirement: Candidates who pass the interview must pay a non-refundable deposit of ₹5,000 to secure their spot.
